You might have noticed the magnificent architecture of the Masonic Temple on One North Broad Street as you were passing by City Hall, but you might not have had the chance to tour inside. Luckily for us, this was our third event here, and even so, we still can’t get over the breathtaking medieval architecture!
This stunning landmark is headquarters to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and has seven lodge rooms, which are key to the fellowship of Freemasons, as lodge rooms are where Masonic meetings are held. To upkeep their elaborate lodges, some masonic temples rent out commercial space, which is how we got the opportunity to explore the Masonic Temple for ourselves.
Before the main event hosted by the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE), we had time to roam the halls of the Masonic Temple, meet members of the association, meet guests, and meet vendors. Caterers wove through the crowd with platters of cocktails and hor ‘d oeuvres — the lobster mac and cheese balls were a hit — but we had to make sure to leave our food and drinks outside the lodges on the nifty trays placed by the entrances to each room.
After cocktail hour, we scurried over to the Grand Ballroom and it was time for our photo booth to take some action! Let me tell you something about this beauty; we design it, build it and paint it. It means the world to us. This year we contact an amazing artist based in Philadelphia. She did magic on the back of our booth. She Incorporates modern calligraphy, and exclusive floral design and cool looking ornaments. Check her work at Amour Artistique
At our prop table, we had our classics like quirky sunglasses and the Philly LOVE sign, and we also had special holiday props like Santa hats, elf hats, snowman puppets, reindeer puppets, and a festive wreath — essentials for any holiday party!
Gabe Fredericks, president of the NACE Philadelphia/South Jersey/Delaware Chapter, stole the show in his tartan Santa cap. For those who were new to the association, he introduced NACE as “the first, non-profit, national organization for caterers, event planners, and event professionals [providing] education, certification, and a network of resources for members in all segments of the hospitality industry”
In the past year, membership increased by 12%, bringing the membership total to 145 people. It was so special to be a part of this cohort and meet people at the top of the industry. These events are held once a month during a year, is definitely a great source to meet new professionals related to your area increasing your network while having some delicious cocktails, dancing and taking some photos at the photo booth.
Happy holidays, and we hope to see more of our friendors at our events in 2019!
